If the development roller is coated follow the instructions in the attached bulletin. If after cleaning you observe scratches running the length of the roller. replace the roller. You may have to order the entire development unit. BE SURE TO USE ONLY GENUINE RICOH OR N.A. TRADING TONER AND DEVELOPER.
The problem could also be a bad charge roller.

Hi there!
We only move and/or open the pcdu if the great maintenance is made. Our experience is: open & clean the pcdu and you get background, streaks, etc....
When the time for maintenance is there, we clean (carefully) the magroller, change developer, drum, cleaning-blades (drum & transfer), chargeroller & transferbelt.
Also all spīs mentioned in the bulletin. After that the machines run 160K without quality-issues.
Greetings...
Is there a way I can enlarge that picture it comes up really small if I try looking at it?
I would probably try another charge roller, clean out dev unit, clean mag roller fully, re dev and go from there.
I have once rebuilt pcu and dev and kept getting really bad grey backgrounding, turns out the charge roller was bad and had to put another new one in and problem went away.
Will a dv unit from an mp4001 work in a mp5002?
i don't know if this helps but i just ran into a problem with back ground on the MP3353. We rebuild our units over and over but never replace charge cleaning roller. We just started having background issues after rebuilds about a 1000 copies and background. I brought one back in and started to trouble shooting. Replace everything but still had problem. I realize only item i had not replace was the charge clean roller. Swap and no more background.
When you replaced drum did you replace the cleaning blade also? If so, did you put lube powder on blade? I also like to take the lube powder and apply it to the drum (about 2 inches wide) and give the drum a full rotation (while making sure to clean any residual powder from charge roller). Just wondering if the cleaning blade may have "Flipped".?
Secondly, I have seen where the charge roller stalls (doesn't spin freely), and can give lines like this. Usually just take it out and clean the bushings it sits in, and clean the charge roller shaft. (also check that the two contact tabs for the charge roller aren't bent or dirty.
Thirdly, as others have suggested, Clean or replace the development roller. The lines seem to show up in a uniform fashion. Roll that piece of paper up and match the marks to see what size roller could be causing it.
And yes MP 4001 DV unit works in MP 5002.
Replaced entire pcu with dv assembly and transfer belt assembly. Same result, streaks!
Only other thing then is the fuser!
Is that paper being fed LEF or SEF? Short edge feed looks like a smaller diameter roller (mag or charge).
Long edge feed would be a different story.
Either way, on to the Fuser, mrfuser!
