MP C307 SC670-02 Error

Hi All,

I'm facing this error on an MP C307 customer originally reported cyan toner not inserted correctly.

When I arrived the machine had SC670-02 & it wont clear.

Any suggestions? manual not much help!

Engine is down when machine starts up (SC reboot can not be performed) (* See “When
SC670 Is Displayed” below)
Machine-down was detected after the /ENGRDY signal was not asserted.
The engine board was reset at an unexpected time
Check the connection between the engine board and the controller board.
• If it is always reproduced, replace the engine board. If the problem persists, consider
replacing the controller board or other boards between them.
• If reproducibility is low, multiple causes are to be considered, such as software, engine
board, controller board, and PSU.

9 Times out of 10 this is due to "poor communication" between the Chip reader contacts and the chip on the bottle. Check to see which bottle the customer said had the "toner not set" message. Take that bottle out and look at the chip on it, and clean it really well if there's toner on it. Then you'll want to take off the output cover of the machine, remove the lasers, remove the toner bottles and clean the HELL out of the contacts and post that the bottle engage with at rear of machine (usually vacuum out excess toner, then clean the contacts and post with a Q-tip {That post goes into a hole on the toner bottle chip and is also a "reading point"}).

Sometimes, if there isn't an obvious toner mess, it can just be a bad bottle/chip.
There's a Bulletin for this model that says to check that the chip on the toner bottle "floats" from side to side and up down (spin the bottle slowly while looking at chip and see if it moves). If it doesn't move at all, then you have a bad toner.

just a heads up. i had the toner not inserted correctly message on a ricoh mpc5502 the other day. ended up even though the box said that toner fit that model, and it would install and the door closed. it was actually the incorrect one labeled wrong on the box. i was lucky that right below where you insert the toner was a label with the correct part # for the correct toner. this was on the K toner. just something to check before you start replacing parts.

Fitted a new cyan toner this resolved the error strange one it showed all the toner levels correctly.
