thanks
I am looking to buy a used macbook just to learn the ins and outs..
ANYthing I should look for or stay away from?
I've had very similar issues with laptops (anything wireless) setting up to print.
I've had offices with multiple wireless access points, if the laptop / mac is connected to a different network, you cannot connect.
If they are connected to the "guest" wireless access...they will not be able to print.
To test the connection, I hardwired the laptop to the network and turn off wireless. It will auto obtain an IP and gateway...make sure (gateway) it matches the Ricoh.
Once on the correct network, set up the Ricoh.
thanks
the only thing i dont think these macbooks will take a cat5 cable.
I think they did sign in as guest..Some of them have 20 wireless listings on them..............
I got a lot of practice doing Mac stuff on a Linux laptop. They're both written on the UNIX core, so a lot of the features (CUPS, etc.) are on both operating systems.
If you're going to buy a Mac, make sure it's at LEAST OS X 10.7 or higher. Anything lower you might be using a G3, G4 or G5 processor instead of an Intel CPU. If you get anything older than 8-10 years old, if something craps out on it you'll have a hard time getting it fixed. Once Apple says "end of life", most Mac repair places treat that as Gospel!
thanks.
i got to "terminal"
figured it out and pinged machine and got the macbook tp set up wth PS3 driver so i guess last time they were on a different network..
Enabled CUPS on one I set up last time and still trying to figure out how to set up tray 3 for heavy
stock"which it is already on copier" or be able to choose tray 3.
I set up a lenovo M32 I had laying around did it on that one and left it for now.
But THey like the shiney apple even though they dont need it to print house listings..
Apple computers are their own thing, that's for sure.
1: Install Drivers.
2: Add Printer manually
3: Launch CUPS to configure printer.
It's almost like they don't want you to make any changes to their system.....LOL~~
Here's a pretty easy to follow walkthrough on changing print preferences on Macs.....
Selecting Basic Print Settings - Mac OS X
10.5/10.6/10.7
There problem is they dont know their way around a MAC and expect me to be their guide.
They just want to make $$$$$$$..And perception out there is MACS will work for every application...
Its just a grind one must push thru....I rather be rebuilding fuser units and machines than be IT guy...
