MP C4504 SC220-04 After "all clear" performed

    Hi all,

One of my junior techs ran an all clear on a working MPC4504 (no idea why) however now we are stuck with this error.

The Birth certificate has been "lost" so cant re-enter the cleared settings.

Not sure where to go next, new NV-Ram!?

Let us eat, drink, and be merry, because tomorrow we may die!

    SC No. Type Error Name/Error Condition/Major Cause/Solution
SC220-01 D Leading Edge: LD1 synchronization detection error: Bk
SC220-04 D Leading Edge: LD1 synchronization detection error: Ye
The leading edge LD0 synchronization detection signal of the corresponding
color was not output within the specified time (sec.) while the polygon mirror
motor was operating at normal speed.
    • The interface harness to the synchronization detection unit damaged or
    not connected correctly.
    • Synchronization detection board defective
    • Beam does not enter photo detector.
    Abnormality around GAVD
    • LDB defective
    1. Turn the main power OFF/ON.
    2. Check for condensation on the LDB.
    3. Reconnect the connectors between LDB (Synchronizing detector board)
    and IPU.
    4. Replace the LD unit.
    5. Replace the IPU
    6. Replace the harness between LDB (Synchronizing detector board) and
    IPU.

Adjustment after replacing the laser unit
    1. Close the front cover and attach the left cover.
    • Attach the left cover before turning on the main power switch. Laser beams can
    seriously damage your eyes.
    2. Plug in and turn on the main power switch.
    3. Download the data of the new laser unit to the main body with SP2-110-005.
    4. Check that SP2-119-001 to 003 is "0."
    • If it is not "0", perform SP2-110-005 again.
    • If it is not executed correctly, outputs will be abnormal (magnification and color
registration errors), and SC 285 may occur.
    5. Turn off the main power switch and disconnect the power cord.
    6. Remove the left cover and attach the laser optics positioning motor harness [A].
    7. Close the left cover.
    8. Plug in and turn on the main power switch.
    9. Select [14: Trimmed area] in SP2-109-003, and then press [OK].
    10. Press [Copy Window], and then print the test pattern in the copy screen.
    • Check if the margin on either side on the output (14: Trimmed area) is less than 4±1 mm
or not. If it is not within these limits, change the reference value (Bk) of the registration
    adjustment (SP2-101-001).
    • Adjust the values of the main scanning magnification only for Bk (black). It is not
necessary to adjust other color’s values (cyan, magenta, yellow) because other
colors are automatically adjusted in relation to the setting for Bk.
    • Input the same value for each SP (SP2-102-001 to -003) even though there are
three SPs of the main scanning magnification adjustment for the standard, middle
and low line speed which are used for each paper type.
    • Check if the margin on the left side on the output (14: Trimmed area) is less than 2±1 mm
or not. If it is not within these limits, change the reference value (Bk) of the registration
    adjustment (SP2-101-001).
    11. Set SP2-109-003 to "0: None" after adjusting the main scanning magnification and
    registration.
    12. Perform line adjustment.
SP2-111-004: Forced Line Position Adj. Mode d
The result can be checked with SP2-194-007 (MUSIC Execution Result Execution Result) (0:
    Success, 1: Failure).
Also, results for each color can be checked with SP2-194-010 to 013 (1: Completed
    successfully).
    13. Exit the SP mode.

Perhaps try running 2-110-005 and see if that helps?

Thanks, he followed the manual as if a new laser was replaced I suggested trying forced line position no luck.

I will have a look myself.

After you finish beating the tech go and run SP2118 to zero the skew mirrors. Once thats done the copier allows you to run SP2110-5 to reload all the laser unit settings that are stored in the laser up to the copier. This step is missing from the manual as it assumes that you are fitting a new laser unit with every thing zero'd from the factory.
At least 50% of IT is a solution looking for a problem.

What did you finally end up finding to be the problem?
I am dealing with almost the exact same problem. A junior technician causing me heartaches almost everywhere he goes.
Any guidance on what you did to resolve the 220-04 code on your c4503 would be greatly appreciated.

Re: MP C4504 SC220-04 After "all clear" performed

I wish that the "All Clear" wasn't available in the normal service mode, maybe not even the special service mode. Have only had to use it once as a last-ditch effort recommended by Ricoh, but I had the birth cert. and was able to re-enter the non-defaults and all that jazz.

Without the Birth certificate, you can spend HOURS trying to get a machine back to "normal" (as a fellow tech told me, but I think they ended up swapping the machine out in the end).
Might be a really dumb question, but Did you or your tech look on the front door under the scanner support (that is stored there during setup) for the Birth Sheet? Don't know why anyone would take it out other than for the event of an all clear.

I'd try to put another machine's data even if each Ricoh has its own birth certificate

Good idea. This may get you in the ballpark and keep it from coding so fine adjustments can be made.

couldn t you just copy a working machine unto to a sd card and upload it to the
down machine and then deal with the sn mismatch via super service mode...

Re: MP C4504 SC220-04 After "all clear" performed

Did you even look at the Service Call Conditions in the service manual? SC220-04 is a yellow LD1 synchronization detection error.
The interface harness to the synchronization detection unit damaged or not connected correctly.
    Synchronization detection board defective
Beam does not enter photo detector.
    Abnormality around GAVD
    LDB defective

    1. Turn the main power OFF/ON.
    2. Check for condensation on the LDB.
    3. Reconnect the connectors between LDB (Synchronizing detector board) and IPU.
    4. Replace the LD unit.
    5. Replace the IPU
    6. Replace the harness between LDB (Synchronizing detector board) and IPU.
