    MP C3504ex HDD fail

Second time on this machine in 6 months. SC860-00 and SC872-00 Error messages include Functional Problem, Problems with the hard disc & Problems with address book.
No power failure that the customer knows of and it is on a surge protector. Any ideas what might be causing this? Pretty damn inconvenient machine to get to.
    Thanks

    Re: MP C3504ex HDD fail

I just replaced the controller on one of ours for repeated issues of the hard drive wanting to be formatted and hard drive codes. It’s been good for about a month now.

Problems with the hard disc & Problems with address book. Are the main reason that you should teach at least one person at the customer how to backup the address book through WIM.

    Re: MP C3504ex HDD fail

We have HDD failure in Print Management Solutions that use the HDD as destination of installed app. If we locally purchase the HDD, price is almost the same as the 240GB SSD. We have replaced HDD with SSD every time we face this issues. So far so good, none of those machines called back for the same HDD problem.

    Re: MP C3504ex HDD fail

    Hi there!
There´s a new App called CESA. It´s introduced with the IMC-series, but can also be installed on the METIS C2.1 series. With it you can monitor the power-supply to the machine. When there´s a sc-code it shows the current at the fail. Maybe this helps a little bit.
    Greetings...

Being a multi brand dealer...we buy our HDD from Toshiba directly.
Cheaper than trying to buy them through Ricoh as a part.
I've had a few Metis-C1 throw up Hard drive needs to be formatted" out of the blue recently but after a hdd swap they haven'y returned.

Zeldaman, where did you get that App called "Cesa" I looked on the TSC site and downloaded the apps for both the IMC and the older model and didn't see it contained in there

Those 2 codes together sounds like the firmware issue referenced in an RTB Ricoh put out shortly after production

    see below:

    [SYMPTOM]
SC860-00 (HDD startup error) may occur if the machine main power is turned ON just after it is turned OFF (i.e. while the machine is still shutting down, the LCD is off, and the blue LED is blinking), followed by one or more of the SC errors listed below.
    SC870-08 Address Book data error
    SC872-00 HDD mail reception error
    SC873-00 HDD mail reception error
    SC925-00 NetFile function error
Affected models: MP C2004/C2504/C3004/C3504/C4504/C5504/C6004 series, SP C840/C842DN series (D239/D240/D241/D242/243/D244/M0AL/M0AJ)

    CAUSE

    Firmware bug

    SOLUTION

    Production line:
The Cheetah System firmware was modified (re-boot timing was changed so that the SCs do not occur).

    In the field:
    - Update the Cheetah System firmware to ver. 1.20 or later or Package to 8.00 or later.

For machines that support it it will be in the "Custom/special" firmware section and is called Customer Engineer Tool EngineDiagnosis

There is a video nugget that shows how to install as well. Search for "customer engineer" and the video should come up.

Look for the Customer Engineering Tool app on the TSRC site in the U.S.
