Does anyone know if a hard drive from a 4001 will work in a C 5000?

There is nothing special about HDDs in Ricoh MFPs. Just fit one of at least the capacity it was originally fitted with or the next size up. I suggest erasing via a PC first then format in MFP.

Yes. If it's the same size (form factor) and size (GB) or larger, good to go.
