How do you know the power from the wall was the cause? Did you have power outage and then the machine did not work?

Must not be a very good insurance agent. Explain to him that every board and component on them has a published life expectancy. Then tell him that just because actuary tables might say he will live to be 85 doesn't mean that he will.

look i would say power supplies are protected by an array of fuses but bcu/other logic boards are not and
a power surge/zap or whatever sometimes travels faster than the "shield of fuses in the power supply"

Had a MPC3503 blow a bcu board and all other boards were fine, had an MPCw2200 that blew the controller because lightening struck their building and went through the network cables also destroying 3 of their computers. I couldn't tell you why but living in Florida with lots of lightening storms we've had our fair share of insurance claims. Never really been questioned. We've never had issues with claims.

I agree with everything above, and would simply add that just like the T-shirt says:

Tell them that those boards are so sensitive that even a static shock from your finger could take them out! As the warning on the label says, "Avoid Electric Shock". Some boards more sensitive than others. Also, agree with above statements on the "route" the lightning takes.

As Service Manager I had to beat the owner/sales to install an ESP surge on EVERY unit that went out .. whether it was just a NetPrinter / Copier / MFP , it took the boss having to PAY $850usd for a main board for an MFP before he agreed.

They have units to fit all your needs .. check out the site: Next Gen Power Conditioning System

At one time the company I worked for was the local service provider of choice for a, Ricoh national account. As such we had to install all new equipment. Ricoh always included the appropriate size and type line protection.
