    Integrated Paper drawer locking mechanism

Does current Ricoh A3 product offer a locking mechanism on their paper drawers to prevent paper theft?

By integrated I mean built into the paper cassette and not some sort of external device bolted to the outside of the copier.

    Thanks,

This is an unusual request in a large RFP for copiers where Ricoh is the current supplier.

It seems to be a knockout spec that a specific brand salesperson convinced the buyer to include.

At places like public libraries I've seen the hasp and padlock trick. It's not pretty but mostly effective. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Yes but that is not an integrated solution built into the paper cassette by the manufacturer.

I suspect this costs more to manufacture and is rarely requested therefore it is not commonly offered.

I have seen an integrated paper lock on some Lexmark printers like the M5163 at 55 cpm but not on their MFPs.

    Also,

"Loss of paper, where the frak is all my paper going or better yet, where did my cheques go? I'm guilty of this! Every now and then we'll run out of notepads, where's the next place I go? Yup, it's over to the copier, open the draw and help myself to all the paper I need. Believe it or not this minor theft of copier paper happens frequently at large educational institutions. Take the University that has 500 plus copiers and uses more than a million prints a month. A five percent loss will mean losing 50K sheets of paper each month. Depending on their cost for paper this can result in a loss of $125-$250 per month. Adding paper tray locks can deter those paper and cheque thieves"

I know from experience in some schools that teachers are allocated X amount of free paper at the start of a school year. When their free paper supply runs out they are on the hunt "by hook or by crook" for more paper.

You need to be talking to your sales support engineers at Ricoh.

Don't think I've seen them on the A3's.
I do know that the MP501, 4510dn/sf, and 5300dn "Healthcare" models have locking paper trays.

Maybe call Ricoh support and see if they have any "Healthcare" type trays available for the bigger machines.

Now that you mention it I think I've seen key lock trays on MICR printers for checks, but I think those were all A4 paper size. =^..^=

I think you might have hit on the solution. A healthcare model for general gov't services including hospitals and schools. Ricoh has lots of time to order them in they just have to provide a brochure to meet the spec.

Ricoh is the incumbent vendor with 500 copiers (to be replaced over three years) so I am sure they were able to place a few little nuggets in the RFP to make life difficult for all competitors.
