Divide and send will work for multi-page PDFs. In the divide and send settings, set it to divide by page, rather than size (this instructs the mfp what to do when it reaches the maximum file size limit). When scanning a large set of pages, the mfp will prompt you when it reaches the maximum size that has been set and ask you if you want to send the file. Send the file, and when it has gone through hit the start button to continue the scan job. If you leave the 1MB default size, you can probably get ~17 or so LT pages at 300dpi before it reaches the maximum size.

The upside to this: Files aren't multi-part e-mails any longer. No need to worry about combining them. They're still multiple e-mails, just not the gibberish you've got right now.

The downside: You will get more than one PDF e-mailed to you. They will each be multi-page, but you won't be able to get one single PDF unless you append the second, third, etc. to the first using Acrobat Pro or some other PDF authoring software.

Depending on just how much you were trying to scan, you could also try scan-to-doc server. Just tell the machine to store the file as opposed to send it and then just have the user download it to their PC via the web interface and then do as they like with it from there...
To do almost the same thing, if the scans are staying inside of the network you could also change the scan setting to scan to URL instead of true email.

If you have divide and send off, the machine will prompt you that the file size is too big and ask if you want to cancel or send as smaller jobs.

Which is this utility to combine the smaller files into a sinle multi-page PDF file ?

Even if you set the transmit size of the MFP to higher size, if it is not allowed by the SMTP server, then it won't work.

I believe that batch transmission is to allow mixing originals that are different sizes and/or a mix of both single and double sided originals.

If the size is going to exceed 25MB, the input limit of most SMTP servers, you can always scan to a local folder and then use gmail which automatic uploads large attachments to Google drive and sends a link or manually upload to Dropbox and attach a link.
