    Reset Ricoh IS300e factory defaults.

We have a Ricoh IS300e that I need to make some settings changes too but noone can seem to remember what the password has been set too. I have tried the factory defaults to no avail. At this point resetting the scanner and starting over would be just fine. I contacted Ricoh about this but they say that only a technician can reset the factory defaults. Is there another way? Is there a way that I can access the service mode?

    Thanks in advance.

Generally speaking, Ricoh has designed their machines such that there is no simple way to "reset" administrative passwords. That is a security 'feature'.

Without looking up the manuals, I would guess a non-volatile memory pack will need to be replaced. Call a tech.

Can anyone with a manual say for sure whether this is necessary?

If you can't get in with the default....
    User: scanner
    pass: password
...yes you need a tech. I have the manual...and no I will not send the service manual to an end user.

Relax! This firmware injection won't hurt...but it will take 45 minutes.

In the words of Steve Martin.... "Well Excuuuuuse me."

Won't send manuals to anyone but trained Copier Technicians.

I went and looked at (actually downloaded them, then looked at them) the manuals. They don't explicitly say anything about recovering or resetting the passwords. So, based on past experience, I would have to call my support line and get/verify the actual memory part number and/or corrective action.

I repeat, call a tech. This isn't one of those 'do it yourself' repairs. If it was something you could do yourself, I'd offer a some help. But, this isn't one of them.

There just happened to be a Ricoh tech on site yesterday and I asked him about the issue. He was able to reset the scanner to default settings by hitting a series of buttons on the scanner. Took him about 10 seconds.

He said anyone could do it if they knew the right buttons to press.

But he's a tech... he's supposed to know how to do this, or at least have the information available that will help him do it.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

That was good that he was able to reset the user settings. Was he able to reset or give you the administrator password?
