Thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to my problem. I still haven't heard back from Ricoh so at this point I am not doing any further followup. I will reply as to the final outcome when I hear more.

check the registration motor....sometimes it fails...try output check
Ricoh has advised that they wanted me to put in a loaner while they decide what they want to do and that works for me.
I expect they will replace instead of repairing as it is on their dime so to speak.
