    MPC3300 locked up

Just got a call from a customer whose machine, after a power outage, stopped responding to every keypress, touchscreen touch or even remote access via web browser.

Told him to cycle the power without success, even after unpluging the machine from the power outlet for 20 minutes.

Customer tells me the copy button (the selector at the left) has a green and a red light on.

Any hints? My first guess would be a firmware rewrite, but I'm open to suggestions.

The power drop might have taken the the ops panel, the BICU or the controller board out. Has he said whether the machine is displaying an SC code?

So, the machine has no error code whatsoever. The touchscreen responds to touchs, but the copy button keeps red. The scanner function is not available (pressing the scanner button only gives a beep).

Oops. Sounds like either the controller board or the BICU's been fried. I'd start with disconnecting the HDD, see if it at least helps it recover to a stage where you can get the SMC off or something.

Thinking about it, it could be something as simple as a popped fuse on the power supply.

yeah, try disconnecting HD's. If that allows, at the least, copy functions to return, then you know your dealing with bad HD's. If not, then go to the PS and check fuses. After that... your basically tracing voltages and the Ricoh manuals don't help a ton there, so refer to the point to points. They will lead you in the right direction.

Best of luck... My moneys on the HD's though!

The first law states that energy is conserved: The change in the internal energy is equal to the amount added by heating minus the amount lost by doing work on the environment.

Power off, then disconnect HDD(only the 4/5 pin connector). If it comes up and u can make a copy, reconnect HDD with power on, go into SP and try to reformat HDD. Only one that worked for my was the 2nd on the list. Then power off. I had this problem twice yesterday and was able to get both up & running. Good Luck

We had a similar problem on an MPC4500 after a power surge. It had blown out all the NVRAM settings. Luckily we had backed up the NVRAM and were able to restore it. Backing up the NVRAM is now common procedure in our office, as is selling a surge protector with the machines.
Most of the time the operators need fixing, not the machine !!!

Confirmed - the HDD was at fault. A simple format solved the problem!

    Thanks all!
