Exclamation Ricoh 5560c (Toshiba 4500c) reset the administrators password.

I've got a Toshiba 4500c that is stuck at the admin's login screen. I bought it from an off lease distributor so I have no idea as to what the password is. Is there a way I can reset the machine with service codes? I'm new to this machine so I have no clue where to begin! Thanks in advance.

Just to be sure, this is a Ricoh Aficio 5560c (these were branded Toshiba also I believe)?

There is a 'backdoor' login. Use the username 'supervisor' and leave the password blank (this is default and could have been changed, if so you could be stuck). You can then go into System Settings and on the Admin tab you can reset the admin username and password. This is the only thing you can change with the supervisor account and why I never tell a client about it (I've had clients set admin passwords and forget). The credentials are stored in the NVRAM and there is no SP reset I'm aware of. You can also use the supervisor account on the machine's web interface, if you know its IP.

Is this the same for the Toshiba 4500c? It is actually branded Toshiba for the one that I have and the supervisor login does not seem to work for me.

    Thanks!

I only work on Ricoh, it is possible that some differences exist between Toshiba branded units and the Ricoh units. I had a look at the current manual and there is no reset for the admin account I can see. I also checked out knowledge base and got the same 'use the supervisor account' answer I gave you. Worst case will be the need to install a new NVRAM. I don't recommend using SP5-801-xxx to clear the NVRAM since I don't think it will remove the password and will whack the machine's settings badly.

    EDIT:
Actually, you can try SP 5-801-011, this will reset only the NCS settings and may give you access using the default credentials. Ricoh has used two:
    1) input no username and use 'password' for the password (older)
    2) use 'admin' as username and enter no password

I was able to get in using the admin as username and no password.. Is there a way to change the regular user's username and password while logged in as the Machine Administrator?

    Thanks!

    Press 'User Tools/Counter'
    Press 'Login'
    Login using the admin account
    Press 'System Settings'
    Press 'Key Operator Tools'
Scroll to second page (I think, this is from memory so use it as a general guide)
    Press 'Address Book Management'

From the address book you can add change remove user accounts. As admin you can also alter restrictions on the user accounts and even disable them entirely so there is free access to the machine. The requirement to login as admin can also be turned off too. As above, just find the options for 'User Authentication' and 'Administrator Authentication'. Hope this helps.

I found how to reset all passwords ot Ricoh 5560c to default without changing the NVRAM - may be it will work on another Ricoh machines.
Send me a message if you are interested.
