DJ 53 is a separation sensor lag, the sensor does not see the trail edge of the paper. That is sensor 3 on neergish's diagram. The black reference gets covered with dust, paper lint, or chads. I blow the dust out of sensor 3 and sensor 4 references everytime I am working on a machine. Sensor 17, which is theone fearless says to make sure you get, takes a little longer if you have to remove the plate that the reference is mounted.

Im with you on this one had exactly the same problem which turned out to be missing black reference pad on the blue guide which is where this sensor looks for the trailing edge. I think it was replaced after being broken but came without the black pad !
