    MPC 2500 toner light

I have a MPC2500 with an ongoing issue where the machine when used in colour mode after say 50 copies it displays the message out of toner. If you switch the machine off and on again it displays the message loading toner please wait!! It then consumes almost an entire bottle of toner and wrecks the developer.
It is always the cyan or magenta units that have this problem. To date we have replaced the toner end sensors, the Controller board, the IOB PCB, the RFID PCB, the development units and drums, the ID sensor and the ribbon harness from the PSU to the controller. All firmware is up to date and the machine is running genuine toner.
Apart from hitting the thing with a bloody big hammer has anyone got any ideas or may have come across this before??

    Smile adding toner

Your fault is a good one to catch people out.

    FIX

    Print of non stanadar data
    Drop NVRAM onto sd card
    Carry out ALL CLEAR
    Reload NVRAM
    Carry out REG SET UP
    Reload all non stanard data
Clean out (vac out) all toner pipes and pumps
    clean toner sns

    Proplem fixed

    REASON
NVRAM should write to toner bottle but fails . there for it does not know the accurte meter reading and calls for toner.

once done should not come back
    GOOD LUCK

I would check the toner pumps, i had this same issue with a MPC 4500 and it was killing the toner pump. The clutch would stick on and burn out. There was toner from one end of the machine to the other inside the front area where the PCU's are. Turned out to be the NV-Ram as discused above. Check the pump clutches with SP 5804, u shoud be able to hear them click on and off, if you aren't hearing it turn on it may be your issue

I believe you said it would go into a please wait condition and would suck up all the toner from the bottle so I can only think that the TD sensor might be faulty. TD sensor check for VT Display in SP3201 numbers 001(B), 002(M), 003(C), 004(Y ).

    • These values should be compared against VTREF Display SP3222 001(B), 002(M), 003(C), 004(Y ).
    • Normally VT display should be slightly below (.1 to .2) then the VTREF value, the more VT is above VTREF the less toner is being seen in the developer unit, when VT is .5 above VTREF a Toner End Condition is indicated if Toner Near End has been detected first.
    • If VT display is high open and close the front door to perform Toner End Recovery or try a forced toner feed SP3015 to add toner and lower VT.
    • If VT remains high check the Toner Attraction Pump and/or the supply tube (may be clogged or crimped) .

    additional checks:
    Check the Toner End Sensor with SP5803 - 035 (K) / 036(M) / 037(C) /0 38(Y) should read 0 with toner present and 1 with no toner present.

    • If SP for affected color reads 1 and no toner is present at the Toner End Sensor

      • Check that affected the Toner Bottle Clutch engages by watching the rotation of the Toner Bottle
      • If the Bottle Rotates check that the gearing and shutter open properly
    • If SP for affected color reads 1 and toner is present

      • Check and/or replace the Toner End Sensor
    • If SP for the affected color reads 0 and no toner is present

      • check and/or replace the Toner End Sensor

    TD sensor check for VT Display in SP3201 numbers 001(B), 002(M), 003(C), 004(Y ).
    • These values should be compared against VTREF Display SP3222 001(B), 002(M), 003(C), 004(Y ).

    • If VT remains high check the Toner Attraction Pump and/or the supply tube (may be clogged or crimped) .

If VT is below VTREF, the Toner End Sensor has toner and reads 0 in step 2, the Toner Cartridge has been changed, and the front door has been opened and closed or the machine cycled off and on, then there may be problem with the NVRAM try:

    • Holding down the "./*" and # pound key for ten seconds to perform a soft reboot of the machine
    • If the condition still persists perform SP5801-002 (Engine Memory clear)

hope this points you in the right direction, good luck.
Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please.

Do the following procedure to upload SP code settings from NVRAM to an SD card.
􀂃 This data should always be uploaded to an SD card before the NVRAM is replaced.
􀂃 Make sure that the write protection of an SD card is unlocked
    1. Do SP5990-001 (SMC Print) before you switch the machine off. You will need a
record of the NVRAM settings if the upload fails.
    2. Switch the copier main power switch off.
    3. Insert the SD card into SD card slot 3. Then switch the copier on
Do the following procedure to download SP data from an SD card to the NVRAM in the
    machine.
􀂃 The NVRAM data down load may fail if the SD card with the NVRAM data is damaged, or
if the connection between the controller and BICU is defective.
􀂃 Do the download procedure again if the download fails.
􀂃 Do the following procedure if the second attempt fails:
􀂃 Enter the NVRAM data manually using the SMC print you created before uploading the
    NVRAM data.
    1. Switch the copier main power switch off.
    2. Insert the SD card with the NVRAM data into SD Card Slot 3.
    3. Switch the copier main power switch on.
    4. Do SP5825-001 (NVRAM Data Download) and press the “Execute” key.
􀂃 The serial number of the file on the SD card must match the serial number of the
machine for the NVRAM data to download successfully. The download fails if
the serial numbers do not match.
This procedure does not download the following data to the NVRAM:
    􀂃 Total Count
    􀂃 C/O, P/O Count

As it is Described in SM,this is how you gonna upload or down the data from NVRam to an SD Card.

    Re: MPC 2500 toner light

    My 2 cents,

That was a lot of money that you dropped into that machine in replacement parts. It's a MPC2500 and they can be purchased by one of my suppliers for as little as $500 completely running. If it were me, I would boot that copier out of there and replace it with a different one. That copier is evidently going to be a problem child and needs to be parted out and discarded. I hope you are in a situation were you can do that.
