    Background on MPC2550

    Hey guys,

I have a MPC2550 that has a blue background on copies only, not prints. It does this obviously in color mode, not b&w. I have adjusted the background sensitivity in user tools but it seems to have no effect. Swapping out the SBU also had no effect.

    Any ideas???

    From both DF and glass?
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

Mmm... bent scanner frame possibly. Try a spirit level on it. Could be a bad exposure lamp, CCD or SIO board too. Models of that age have rubbish parts in the scanner assembly.

May possibly be an issue with the IPU where image processing is done.

Also found this in the GKB, sound kind of similar where maybe the blue background is actually process black but is different in the fact that you say it is not occuring in b/w mode...

    [Problem]
Background when ADS Mode is turned Off
In Full Color the background is a process black, In Black and White mode the background is gray. With ADS on there is no evident backgrounding. When ADS is turned off and exposure is at the center setting, backgrounding is exhibited. Print Jobs and internal prints do not have background

    [Cause]
The gray balance adjustment NV RAM Data has been corrupted and has reverted to the default value
    [Action]
Reset the value of SP 4685 - 001 and 002, SP4686 - 001 and 002 and SP4687 - 001 and 002 to the value on the Factory Data Sheet.(Located under Jam Instruction Sheet on the Front Cover)
If the Factory Data Sheet is not available try starting with these settings and fine tuning as needed.

    • SP4685-001 to -26 SP4685-002 to -26
    • SP4686-001 to -6 SP4686-002 to -6
    • SP4687-001 to -16 SP4687-002 to -16

That's true that auto density (ADS) may be off, but if it is it shouldn't leave a background when using plain white paper. That's why I posted the settings that may need to be changed.

as parts age and wear , as there is no automatic correction the image can become soiled, remember analogue manual setting.
