Mp4000 - Odd Duplex Problem

Hello there boys and girls.

Please someone help me over here, because I have this odd problem with one MP4000 and I can't put my finger on the problem.

When doing duplex copies, the machine will, under certain conditions, shift the second side of the copy by roughly 6mm to the left. What certain conditions? Here:

- Simplex Printing: OK
- Duplex Printing: OK
- Simplex Copying: OK
- Duplex Copying with 2-faced originals: OK
- Duplex Copying with 1-faced originals (either from ARDF or from the glass): Not Good

Here's an example:

Due to these characteristics, I've ruled out any mechanical problem I can think of, so I'm convinced this must be electrical. I've reflashed all firmware and formated the HDD without results.

I've been told about an SP that allows us to electronically position the duplex image on the paper, but I can't find anything like it that could apply to this particular situation.

Any hints?

did you tried to modify the margin settings in user tools?
Go to user tools than copier/document server features.
In edit page set front margin, back margin and 1sided to 2sided margin:TtoT on 0mm.

That was it! Oddly enough, it seems the machine does that by default - an equal machine sitting right next to it (but from a competitor, so I can't touch it) has the same parameters and does the exact same thing.

If you bind the output you lose 5-10mm on the spine when you turn the page over, that's why there is a margin set on the second side by default.
Kinda makes sense but most customers want it set to 0mm when / if they notice it.

I normally set 1mm on the erase margin by default to get rid of trailing edge line on the second side (as seen on your last example).

Yes, but by default most originals already are made with that margin, so ultimately that will just offset the second side too much - and if the original is too close to the borders on both sides, one of the sides will get cut off.

I set them to 0 when I set a machine up. I never get a complaint. Whereas before, the majority of customers complained about the image shift.
Same with Auto-off, initially I would leave it at the default and he majority could complain about having to "turn the machine back on" so now when I set it up I set it at 240min. No complaints.
