2045 DF 76 pressure hinge

this is the first time a customer has complained about the hinge on the rear df that holds the df to the machine. customer is complaining that when their lifting the df it does not stay up and always comes falling down hard on to the scanner. its ok when its up 90 degrees but when it up 45 then it easily falls down to be honest i didnt think there was anything wrong with it, they all seem the same to me this didnt feel any different.

i tightened the screws that holds the df to the machine. its only done 30k. customer is abit rough with it. i want to know if theres any way i can make it stronger??

Replace the hinge, the springs lose their strength after awhile

x2. Also, explain to the customer (who is obviously a total fuckwit) document feeders aren't supposed to be left at 45 degrees. I bollock customers who do this on a regular basis.

X3. i had to replace hinges at a car dealership. they did most of their copying off the glass and not the df. they also left it up more than puttting it back down.."too much trouble"

If and when you replace the right hinge do not forget to transfer over the 'DF open sensor' actuator. You will be scratching your head and wondering why it doesn't work when you're done (not that I would know from personal experience.....

)
I've also shimmed a few washers between the top of the spring and the plate it pushes against to give it more staying power (I believe the left hinge).

I'm partial to the shimming method myself.
