I have replaced them with success but have never had a sync detector problem on these color units yet.

What I am wondering is are you having any problems with cyan??? Cyan and Yellow use the same laser and detector boards for start and finish.

Also have you tried doing a Auto LPA? If it fails then try doing a manual one by running a Forced (SP2-111-001 to -003) but follow the procedure for doing the LPA in the proper order.
Ricoh & Microsoft may pay the bills but Un*x saves my ass every day.
    MCSE/CCNE/ENS and other crap...

I'll do that the next time we get a problem with a machine (we have had this problem on the MPC 2050 and 2500 - not 2800 and 4000).
The machines have never showed us a code for cyan - just the yellow one.

We have managed to fix a few by setting mirrors inside the laser unit in place. We have called it shaken copier syndrome :-) because we think the problem is because of rough handling of the copier during transportation . .
