    error code 590,312,315 on a Ricoh MP5500

    i have a 5500 wth 600k that i cant figure what is causing a 590.
if i let the machine cycle it codes out,if i run it without machine cycle it allows a counter copy to print but codes during it.590 all the time.
copy is bad too light and i have a "from frnt to back" a 1/2 in blank area.
also it was blurring a bit when i initially troubleshot this.
i put a temp machine in.
on the service mode it shows 312 or 315 codes going off with the 590,but these never appear on screen.
i cleaned the waste toner tubes, hoses, and all sensors and the half moon gear that turns on top of the waste toner mech.
replcd the transfer unit, charge corona and top of dev unit."toner supply unit"
figuring maybe it could be a bind problem.
    still no luck.
have a spare 2051 that im thinking of swapping parts from but not sure how much in interchangeable.
    any input appreciated.

you need to remove the photosensor at the toner discharge unit and do a thorough cleaning its a common problem for sc 590,
for 315 if the potential sensor is clean clean the pre-transfer unit casing and lamp must have accumulated with toner,
    gud luck!

There's a firmware update for this machine that causes it to misdetect SC590 when it's actually seeing SC495. With regard to the 312 and 315, the potential sensor sounds like it's had a belt and needs to be replaced.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

Yep, you got to dig into the back of the machine and I would recommend, replacing the sensor at this point. I also found the the joint where this sensor sits only has one screw holding it in, allowing toner and dust to gather at the sensor. I eventualy greased up the edge of the plastic duct to form an airtight seal and this seemed to do the trick.....desperate times calls for desperate measures.....

will check all, thnx for the feedback

will check all,i usually remove the sensor below the seal on every mcp or any vacuuming,,was taught that from the 6513 colors.funny thing is if i run the motor in test mode i get no sc.
theres no binding and i had issue 1 month b4 wth the 495 code wth dust on the sensor
in back of of copier behind the transfer unit and part of the toner cleaning.
it looks like both sensors are interchangeable,at least in a 2051 parts manual.
thnx will make it back to this machine next week

Firmware upgrade fixxed the wrong code issue

Ran the firmware upgrades and the error code turned out to be a bad sensor
behind the transfer belt cleaning unit..code 490 or 495,i had cleaned this onn earlier calls and i guess they fail.
The copy quality issues were due to toner bands on the drum from front to back.
Polished it out,new blade and brush, cleaned all air filters and blew out all fans and it works ok...
    Thanks
