Red Light on Fax button

What would cause the fax button light to stay red except when receiving and sending on a Ricoh Aficio 2045? Any help appreciated, thank you.

Do you have any error message on the fax page? Do you have fax forwarding turned on?

I've previously had an issue with fax forwarding not being sent with the red light on, but I think there was an associated message on the fax page. I'll assume you've power cycled and unplugged, have you cleared the fax memory?
