I think it's not normal that it takes so long - with or without the PS3 option. Maybe the netowrk speed from/to the copier is somehow really bad (you can try to bypass the network if you use a notebook plus crossover cable).

And it's indeed possible the the HDD is bad - not broken but somehow slowed down. Formatting may help (better go with the entire hdd and not just sub-sections) - don't forget to backup the adressbook data in case thereΔs a lot of targets stored.

Is there any way to convince the customer to save the word files with pictures in the PDF format before printing? Anytime you add pics to word, the size will get exponentially large. I created a single page word document with 2 pictures and saved it in both .doc and .pdf format. The .doc file size was 1.6M and the .pdf was 350K.

Slow printing or a memory overflow can be caused by any number of problems. However, in some cases, these have been reduced or solved using the "Memory Usage" setting. When troubleshooting slow printing and/or memory overflows, this should be one of the first workarounds tested.
Font Priority (System > Memory Usage):

Generally, "Font Priority" allocates more memory to PDL processing and less to image processing than the default "Frame Priority" setting. The amounts of memory vary by device.

Data volume might be too high Processing time depends on data volume. The device requires more time to process high volume data such as graphics-heavy documents.
If the data-in lamp is blinking, data has been received by the printer and is currently being processed. Wait a moment.
Making the following setting on the printer driver may reduce the computer's workload:

    • PCL 5c/6
      1. Open [Printing Preferences], and then click the [Print Quality] tab.

      2. Click the lower value in the [Resolution] box.

    • PostScript 3
      1. Open [Printing Preferences], and then click [Advanced].

      2. In the [PostScript Output Option] box, click Optimize for Speed.

Some Word Documents, especially with embedded Objects tend to blow up enourmously in Size while Printing, i have seen this several Times. Try to convert it to PDF and print it again, what happens? Would you mind to send me the File in question? I will try to print it on a MPC4500 and see, how long it takes.

    Dear teebee,

many thanks for your efforts, we convert it the file to .pdf format and its printing somehow fast, and we have informed the customer about it and they shall use the pdf format from now on.

Never the less we are testing your suggestion / solution and we shall update it later.

    Thank

    waleed

Sounds like some one may have turned off some of the "System Services" on the PC ?

    Control Panel|Administration Tools|Services | Print Spooling <start> set to <automatic>

Is print spooling enable and started on the PC ? Try another PC.

Re: Ricoh mpc3500 print spooling very very slow

Anyone happen to come up with other solutions? We are trying to retire a large HP 11x17 color printer and use our Ricoh MPC3300 for printing color but it prints incredibly slow. The problem seems to be that the network interface on the copier only transmits at 1Mbps which is 1980s network speed. I have it set to 100 full duplex and have tried other settings. Our backbone is 1Gbps and works reliably with other network printers. No matter what, the printer only accepts data at a very slow speed (exactly 1Mbps) compared even to $50 wireless inkjet printers. Also tried different cabling and such. Also switched to a universal PCL driver that allows more settings such as lowering resolution and document complexity. But really the print interface seems completely inadequate by any modern print standard.
