    Ricoh Aficio sc 820 code

Half the time the side switch is turned on this code appears. The other half the machine starts up just fine. I've swapped main boards and seems to help, but doesn't go away entirely. Anyone have the answer to this?

    820 Self-diagnostic error: CPU
An unexpected exception orinterruption occurs during the selfdiagnostictest.
An error is detected in the MBU.
    Defective controller
    Defective firmware
    Loose MBU jumper

Check the fax board and make sure the MBU is seated firmly on the FCU and the jumper is in the correct position, (on). Also, reload the firmware.

looks like a worn out NV-RAM battery... If you have an "organ donour" try to change it and see, what happens
If sometimes you feel a little useless, offended and depressed always remember that you were once the fastest and most victorious sperm of hundreds of millions!

Re: Ricoh Aficio sc 820 code

Thank You Herrmann, and looks like you're right about the NV RAM battery. I substituted another Controller Box and so far no code! There was more than the SC 820 code when it did happen. The exact readout appears at the very bottom of page 11 of FAX UNIT B130,B168,B169, part of the service manual. It points to the jumper being loose, but it's not. Don't see how it would ever get loose.

I wonder if you have ever replaced that battery. If not, do you think I would lose the NV RAM data if I did (manual, page 3-32)? How about if I did it while in the machine and powered up? It's easily accessible and seems possible to do that. Sounds much easier than saving the data on a card. Or I could just leave the other box in there. And thoughts? Anyone else replaced that battery (CR 2032, very common) without complications? Thanks again.

Lupi I like that answer. I'm gonna check into that. I have tried replacing the cr-2032 battery on the big board inside the metal box, but it didn't help. I had an extra so no big deal, but would like to get it back up for the next time.

I've never heard of your location. Sounds exotic...do you need an extra technician out there? Thanks again.
