Hi Everybody,
Can you please remind me how to reset the SC548 error on the color ricoh MPC 4500?
Enter service mode and use sp5810 to reset fuser codes. You need to check the fusing belt sensor and make sure the fuser is set correctly. If those things look OK, you might have a bad IH inverter coil, which is a real pain to replace. I did one earlier this week and it took me almost 2 hours.
NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING
Luckily enough 548 is more often than not a worn ferrite roller. Just do a fuser rebuild and that should sort it. There is a firmware update for this SC too, wouldn't hurt to do it.

Hit it.
I had this code last week and it turned out to be the encoder sensor on the frame. To confirm, I switched it with the one above it and the error switched to 549.
Yeah, there's a modified set of sensors for that too. AW02 0190.

Things to check before you reset because sc548 relates to a "fuser rotation error" :-
1/ The orange sponge roller inside the fusing belt isn't starting to disintegrate, I've had a few of these come in for 548, the code has been reset then a couple of days later it's come back in again with a chewed up fusing belt because this roller has given out. If you have a load of orange dust/chunks in the bottom of the fuser, this roller is on it's last legs.
2/ The bearings haven't seized (usually the press roller bearings but not unheard of for the aforementioned sponge hot roller bearings to go as well). These seize up on both this machine and the newer MPc4000/5000 machines. The machine will usually run but with a terrible clicking/clunking noise from the fuser as the whole bearing is effectively turning in the frame rather than the inner race turning with the roller. The press roller bearings can be a PITA to get off if they have seized and because the press roller is held captive in the frame by the bearings you have to get them off to remove the roller.
3/ The sensors actually on the machine frame (RHS door at the front) aren't hanging loose out of their brackets, the modified sensors have increased the gap between the photointerruptor to prevent them being knocked loose if the customer doesn't push the fuser back in square at the back and front.
4/ The oil supply and cleaning rollers aren't completely dry (oil) and caked in baked on toner (cleaning). I have had a few where they haven't been changed in a long time and had effectively stuck together and seized, this was putting a breaking effect on the press roller that seemed to be causing 548.
sometimes it is the encoder sensor gets knocked out when customer pulls out fuser unit and pushes unit back will knock sensor loose, just wanted to add that to all the other good suggestions out there.
Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please.
SC548 Fusing unit rotation error is displayed Question [Problem]
SC548 Fusing unit rotation error is displayed.Answer [Cause]
When the Fusing Unit is inserted into the machine, side to side play may allow the Fusing Rotation Encoder to hit the Fusing Rotation Sensor and knock the sensor out of position and/or damage the Fusing Rotation Encoder or Sensor.
[Action]
1. Check and replace if necessary the Fusing Rotation Sensor with Part Number AW020190. The width of the Fusing Rotation Sensor was changed (increased), to prevent the Encoder from contacting the Sensor (item 9 shown in lower right of picture below) when installing the Fusing Unit. Sensor is located on inner front frame and can be seen when removing the Fusing Unit.
2. Check and replace if necessary the Encoder (item 33) Part Number B2234141
3. Upgrade Engine Firmware to Version 1.551.01 or higher
Symptom corrected:
SC548 (Fusing unit rotation error) occurs if the fusing unit is not attached completely.
Note: With the new firmware, SC548 is displayed only if it occurs three times during warm-up.

I am having the same issue. The error follows the fuser. I replaced the actuator. NG. Fuser spins freely. Do not know what the IH inverter is. Can someone enlighten me please.
It might be the red sponge roller in the middle of the fuser is breaking down, the ferrite roller is on it's way out or the fuser bearings are starting to sieze.
