I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. ~Thomas Edison
I'd start with unplugging the HDD & see if you can make a copy.
There are 4-5 screws that hold the controller assy. in - usually there are arrows etched on the plate to point out which ones. It's where you plug the network cable in & should just slide out. The HDD will slide out with the assy. NOTE - I haven't had any electrical issues on this model yet, so my directions might be completely wrong.
If you do have to replace the HDD, you can backup the Address book from the working machine & restore it to the dead one. (WIM/ Addy book/ Maintenance) You'll also have to reset the stamp data - in the latter Sp5xxx's.
Good luck!
TonerMunkeh - I see now which "please wait" message you are talking about. Its supposed to show near the top of the screen. Interestingly it never says anything. The place where its supposed to say "please wait" then "ready" is completely blank. It never shows anything and it never gives the ready beep either.
Everyone Else - Trust me I'm pinging the correct IP.
I'm gonna pull the HD and see what happens. Will reply with my findings.
Pulling the hard drive did the trick!!! The copier function now works. So which of these are viable options...
1. Can I buy a new hitachi drive and clone the working drive with acronis
2. Will ricoh ship me a preloaded replacement drive?
3. Install a blank hard drive in the copier and will the firmware reload the sofware for me?
4. Can I download an image of the hard disk from ricoh?
What does the copier tech handbook say?
i think you can put any HDD in the machine since it only will operate 80gb. When you have installed the HDD do a format on it.
Can someone please post the quick instructions for formatting an HDD?
Sorry to keep sounding so clueless, but the admin and user manuals are unhelpful with this.
go to service mode
press: yellow-->1--->0--->7--->red and hold red unitl the screen changes
then go to copier service mode (first panel)
then press sp5-xxx
then go to: 5832
chose all and confirm with #
---> done

You don't have to load any HDD software on Ricohs.
I'd start by reformatting the HDD - just be aware that this is usually (but not always) only a temporary fix if it works.
Yellow "Clear Modes" button, 1-0-7 then hold the red "Clear/Stop" button until the screen changes. Select "System Settings" on the LCD. Enter "5832 #" & press "Execute". When it's completed reboot using the main power switch on the left side of the front cover.
Your NIC settings aren't stored on the HDD, so you should be OK printing. You will lose all of your Address Book settings & your stamp data (Service Program 5853).
