Re: should i perform 5801 clearing all

Back 25 years ago this seemed like the thing to do. I have to say that it rarely fixed anything though. Only if you have a tech that likes to change settings randomly (and I sure hope not).

It's probably too late now to say "Don't do it."

All you end up doing is creating several hours of entirely unnecessary work, trying to recover settings that you already had in the beginning, and tossed out. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

So that goes to show why I had no other choice for my issue. Someone must've switched sd cards and I couldn't remove all the installed apps.

Had the message "sd card not seated correctly..." which would NOT go away even after full hdd format, removed all java apps (then removed all sd cards - java and postscript), and a 5801-003 SCS clear...I even updated/reflashed the firmware and still had the damn sd card message!

A thorough look through the 5990 non-defaults did not reveal anything abnormal.

Only thing that seemed to work was 5801-001 all clear. Even then, putting the saved nvram data back on it caused the message to show up again.
So I had to "all clear" and start from scratch (using the non-defaults from before as a reference) to keep it proper.

!ALWAYS get 5990 data before doing this!

Maybe something else would have resolved this, but trying to figure it out was taking longer than wiping it and starting over.
(I posted here because I think it's related as one of the few times this would be performed)
Found me the Troll who awakened the sleeping thread.
In future man....post a NEW thread.

Red face Re: should i perform 5801 clearing all

Apologies all around. Guess I just got used to finding relevant info in old threads since I mostly work on the older models.
