    MPC2051 Lanier LD620C moaning sound

Operator is running labels and thick 3 cardstock through bypass. After 3-4 sheets run through this continuous moan eminates from the fuser (sounds like it anyway) You can stop the run, wait 30 seconds and first 1-3 are fine then the constant moan again. Customer is concerned as they run several pieces of cardstock at once and are afraid they are hurting it. I have run std 20 lb for a run of 30, no noise, perfect. On Ricoh site others are having same issue with no resolution other than trying a new fuser. This mfp is new with around 7k on it, fuser is cherry yet, not even an ounce of wear.

    Any thoughts?

    From the Knowledge Base.....

RTB No.: RD014036 : Vibration noise from fusing unit in thick paper mode

    Published 09/26/2011 09:06 PM | Updated 09/26/2011 09:06 PM
    Answer ID 142868 | FAQ ID 142813 | Rank A2

    [SYMPTOM]

A loud vibration is heard from the fusing unit when the machine is operating under the thick paper mode.

    CAUSE
Sticking and slipping occurs between the nip pad and the fusing belt at high temperatures, causing vibration. This vibration is transmitted via the nip pad stay and the belt, where it resonates and creates a loud noise.

    SOLUTION
    In the field:
If this symptom is reported, do the following steps and adjust the target fusing temperature.
Step 1) Lower the target fusing temperatures in the following SP modes.
SP Number Description Default Min. Dim
    SP1-105-021 Thick2:FC:Center 145 120 deg
    SP1-105-022 Thick2:FC:Press 165 140 deg
    SP1-105-023 Thick2:BW:Center 135 110 deg
    SP1-105-024 Thick2:BW:Press 140 115 deg
    SP1-105-025 Thick3:FC:Center 150 120 deg
    SP1-105-026 Thick3:FC:Press 178 148 deg
    SP1-105-027 Thick3:BW:Center 140 110 deg
    SP1-105-028 Thick3:BW:Press 150 120 deg

Step 2) Make a few copies and check the image quality.
Step 3) If the noise still appears after the above steps, replace the fusing belt unit or fusing unit.

Important: Lower the temperature by 15 - 20 degrees. Be sure to maintain the temperature difference between "Center" and "Press" in the above table. For example, when changing SP 1-105-021 from 145 -> 125, change SP1-105-022 from 165 -> 145 at the same time.
If the temperature is set too low, fusing offset image problems might appear. Always check the image quality after changing these values.

You could try fitting the optional oil supply roller assembly to the fuser too, a lubed belt and pressure roller might help avoid the noise.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

If the sound disappear in SEF mode it's probably too much friction inside the fuser sleeve and it's inner part. You can disassemble it and slide it off the inner part and add some silicone oil on the contact plate, then reinstall. Only recommendable if need to keep the machine alive for some months within a service contract.

The part number you are requesting is D1054385
If I may, The given solution of adding the lubricating roller is good, but from my experience you will not solve the problem completely. I've tested this solution and that alone does not eliminate the vibration (noise).
In addition to this I suggest you to lubricate with barrierta grease the bushings of the sleeve Unit.
Detach the sleeve of the bushing and lubricate it. It will erase the vibration.

I have lubed the padding inside the fuser sleeve with great results. Then i lightly lube the metal casing inside where are the wear marks are. Noise is gone and I don't have to mess with temp settings that may cause issues down the road.
This can be a little tricky at first but iv'e done it a few times and its not too bad.

What do you lube it with?

Any high quality high temp grease will work, I use lubriplate high temp grease from Katun.
