If yes, remove the tray, on the right hand tray runner in the machine you will see a stud with a black plastic roller which supports the tray when in position.

Turn this roller and look for a groove (Flat spot).

If there is one, that's the problem.

You can check by refitting the tray, sticking a flat blade screwdriver between the 1st and 2nd trays on the right hand side and twisting it to raise the 1st tray by about 1-2 mm.

If this works, replace the runner.

You could also glue some plastic inside the tray to widen the contact point between the tray and the roller, this would help stop the fault returning (IT WILL return!!)

There was a bulletin in the uk suggesting new friction pads / brackets but I found it didn't work.
Thanks for the tip. i will check that today. And let you know

Re: MPC2050 jam in the paper tray 1

We have had this issue occur on nearly all our Mpc 2050 through to Mpc 2551 range. Did most of the above mentioned and has never fixed issue. Through frustration, i decided to advise the client to adjust side fences and end fence in paper tray till it hits the paper's edge then loosen it off about 1mm all round. This has fixed our issue. Thought it was just a fluke but then as these jobs kept coming in just kept telling the same thing and now is all good and hardly hear form clients with these mach. Also train the client to not store paper on the l/h side of the end fence. This problem tends to occur in tray 1 moreso. See if that helps.

I have a jamming issue on a MPC2551, went last week & replaced the feed roller & friction pad, tested 50 duplex prints all good, but it has come back in

So looks like I will need to replace the clutch in the feed drive unit, but can someone post more detailed information on how to replace these clutch's, I swung out the controller board, removed what I think is the feed motor, but can't see how to get to the clutches behind the motor, surely the complete drive unit needs to come out?

The whole drive unit does come out and it comes out as an assembly. Remove the surrounding screws and it will wiggle out. Replacing the clutches is time consuming and you need to replace all as a set.

Re: MPC2050 jam in the paper tray 1

You will find a bulletin on this matter, that clearly shows how to do this.
I strongly recomend you to get help and lift the machine on to a table :-) that would make it easier.
