    Exclamation [ Firmware updating issue ] SC792

When updating be sure to cross reference the firmware part numbers on the screen before proceeding.

    As an example

OLD: D0875572C NEW: D0875572D <-- OK to proceed
OLD: A1234567 NEW: D0875572D <-- Do not update

Due to supply issues in Japan some PCB boards may be supplied from alternative vendors.
The function of these PCB boards remain unchanged accept they are preloaded with different firmware in order to operate correctly.

A PCB board that has the wrong firmware loaded will NOT be recoverable and would need to be replaced.

    SC792

The machine does not recognize the finisher, but recognizes the bridge unit.

Thanks for the heads up Cipher, I didnt know it was possible to overwrite firmware with a different part number.

You never realize how cheap a professional is until after you let an amateur do it.

Nor me till I nuked a finisher last week lol.
I knew it didn't look quite right but I said to myself... meh it wouldn't show up if it wasn't a valid update (right?)
Guess the machine cannot tell the difference between a finisher with older type of PCB and the newer type of PCB.

Had this with an MP6500/SR841 Finisher. During the update the machine freezed. I realized that the wrong finisher firmware was on the SD-card. When I switched off/on the machine kept asking for the SD-card. After a phone call with Ricoh Support I could recover by using 143 + 3x Clear.

This is a different issue Eric (Ricoh have a newly issued RTB on it).
What you have described is one of the procedures for recovering from Exx update errors.

No this one will successfully update and you will think all has gone well.
It's when you power off then back on that you are greeted with SC792 and a dead finisher.

Looks like we are up for a new PCB.

Does anybody know if a tech bulletin has been released in Australia for this problem yet? I've been searching the Ricoh site with no luck, also going back through my email archives just in case I missed it.
