    MP4500 - not adding toner

    Hey all,

Never been a big fan of MP4500's but having an issue with a machine not adding toner. I noticed a lot of toner dump so got the hopper out and gave it a good hoover out and used output mode to check that the toner bottle motor is turning (which it is)

I noticed that two small plastic mylars have fallen out of the hopper so could that be the problem? For some reason the toner just wont fall down into the dev unit, it just builds up in the hopper until the machine pops up the low toner message.

I have ordered the hopper and a new set of developer - any other ideas?

    Cheers all.

You need to replace the toner hopper cover assembly A2323240

It will indeed, but when it happens again in the future you only need to replace the front cap with the mylars on. A fresh bag of dev and a good mag roller scrub are a given if the copy quality is a bit naff, these things struggle recovering from toner end sometimes.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

Ah thanks for the TonerMunkeh, guess that would save a few pennies in the future. I take it this is just the user making a pigs ear of putting the toner bottle in that knocks these mylars out then?

Planning to change the dev as well so hopefully that will bring this 'lovely' machine back to life!

Now on to trying to solve my SC322 error on another MP4500 - good times...

I wouldn't be so quick to blame the users, I have had this problem many times without much evidence to suggest misuse. It seems to affect the MP4500 range more than the earlier boxes, that coupled with the higher incidence of the PCU recycle coil getting blocked/backed upand copy quality issues I think it's yet another issue with the toner.

I have drilled and secured the mylars with short screws on numerous occasions to prevent them falling off.

Same here. The problem never returns after this is done.

Neat thing about recovering the old mylars and fixing them with screws, you don't need all four of them. Three will work as good as four, and two will work in a pinch.
Also, if you work on color machines, the screws left over from PCU replacement of the Lanier LD435c series equivalent work great for this.
