    color scanning

A customer called and said that they were not able to scan in color on their DSc525. (Scan to Email). I told them how to change to color scan in the scan setting menu and they say it still wont go. BW is fine.
So I told them it was the file size and sent a tech over there to look at it.

Without checking I had always thought that a color scan would be larger in size but it isnt. I scanned a single color brochure on the C2050 in the showroom 3 ways and got the following results: Black/white PDF 466K; Color PDF 217K; Color Jpeg 216K

Just one page and all looked fine on my screen.
    Does this seem strange?

    Re: color scanning

All things being equal. I've always found colour scans to be much larger than B&W.
Having not used the C2050 yet myself, is it possible to independently set the resolutions set for both B&W and colour? In other words, any chance that B&W was set higher on your machine?
with regard to your client's issue, I'm unclear on exactly what you meant. Are they getting an error, blank pages or just always B&W? In any case, maybe an SP5-801 on the scanner might rectify. I experienced the scanner sending blank pages quite a few times years ago (using scanrouter) that a reset took care of

Color scans just dont arrive. Checking the log, its says "transmitting"

Yes, that is strange. I just did the same thing on a mp8001. All scans at 300 dpi > B/W PDF-130k > Color JPEG- 361k > Color PDF-357k.

Just did it again. Resolution is the same on all three. How can a BW scan be so much bigger?

The machine is possessed, or maybe Ricoh has made some image processing tweaks to improve B/W scan quality. I dunno.

BTW I remember that issue with the blank scans, on the 1022/1027.

    Re: color scanning

Maybe you were using something other than the "text" setting? Because I tried again with some other settings and they can become quite large (1 page on a C3500 at 200DPI):
    B&W
    text: 70Kb
    line art: 329Kb
    text/photo:376
    Photo:417Kb

    full colour text/photo
    192Kb
