Open the side door. Below the image transfer belt unit you will find black plastic frame with two screws. Remove it. After you remove it, you'll see the ID sensor board.Remove all screws and then pull the ID sensor board slowly. No need to remove the connector. Clean the ID sensors with clean cloth moistened by alcohol.
Note: Be careful not to touch the image transfer belt while removing the ID sensor board.
That is easy way..
Oiiii,TDBM.
Clean or replace the ID sensor, but first you need to check parts yield or life like PCU and ITB(Image Transfer Belt).
Also happens when parts are expired or done their life.
for Id sensor cleanings see attachment. but make sure you don't scratch the id sensor.
hope it help's.
Hi there!
Had this problem 3 times, everytime it was cleaning the sensors & changing the ITB-cleaningunit (machines with high volume).
Greetings...

Hi fbkhan3,
your answer helps me.
You are great!
Do not use alcohol as it can etch the surface of the sensor and then you will have to replace the sensor. Use only a clean cloth moistened with water only.
The following is from TSB 45 for this model:
Please follow the troubleshooting steps below to resolve an SC400 (ID Sensor Adjustment Error).
1. Check the harness of the ID sensor.
2. Clean the ID sensor with a cloth moistened with water.
NOTE: Never use alcohol, because this may damage the board.
3. Execute SP3011-001 (manual process control).
4. If the value of SP3324-003 (Vsg error counter) is NOT “0”, repeat Steps 2 and 3.
5. If the value of SP3324-003 is still NOT “0” after repeating Steps 2 and 3, check the spring for the PTR unit
contact lever. Repeat steps 3 & 4.
6. If the value of SP3324-003 is still NOT “0” replace the ID sensor. Repeat steps 3 & 4.
Notes:
1. If the black spacers are stuck to the sensor board, remove all black spacers. These black
spacers should be used when a new ID sensor board is installed.
2. Input all correction coefficients for the ID sensor with the SP modes referring to the barcode
sheet provided with the new ID sensor unit/board.
For example, input "0.98" with SP3362-013 & 016.
3. Always refer to the Service Manual for the complete part replacement procedure
From past experiences with these machines, I would add the following to cleaning/replacing the id sensors.
Remove the ITB assembly and remove and clean the metal plate found on the same side as the id sensors (paper feed side).
With use, this plate becomes contaminated with toner (normally ends up being a dark blue/purple colour. Vibration in the machine causes the toner to fall through the square holes in the plate, right onto the id sensors.
To remove the plate, remove the 2 screws that hold the plastic handle in place (closest to you), then slide out the metal plate.
Once cleaned, reinstall the plate, making sure that it sits in the alignment pins, then reinstall the handle and the 2 screws.
Reinstall the ITB assembly and you are done.
