    Re: MPC3003 MPC5503 SC899

    Code:
    SC899

Software performance error (signal reception end)

Occurs when an internal program behaves abnormally.
We are aware certain print jobs stuck in the print queue can continuously trigger SC899 until manually cleared.
Printer firmware updates for various models have already been released to fix the known occurrences.

With that said SC899 in my opinion is more of an general code where the root cause can vary.
99% of the time the fix is going to be in the way of a (patch) firmware update.
So if you get on-going SC899 problem after updating the firmware to the latest versions you should log a support ticket with Ricoh and supply as much detailed information as you can.
    Help them, help us.

A simple solution, but it's still annoying as it shouldn't of really been a problem in the first place.
Why wouldn't you run the PS3 SD card from any vacant SD card slot.

new firmware out, some as recent as today for this so-far underwhelming series. will it be another flop like the XX02 models?

    Re: MPC3003 MPC5503 SC899

Another tech called in to ricoh tech support for sc899 on ac430 printer but was told this might work for other printers also, I haven't tried it:

Leave the network cable unplugged and restart to clear sc899.

    Print configuration page.

Do a memory clear for printer (8) and ncs (11) in sm5801-8 and 11

Clear the printer queue on the server or pc(s).

Reboot the machine and enter all the network settings that got cleared.

Reboot the machine with the network cable connected and then send a print job.

Test with the same file that caused sc899 if possible.

I thought I would share my experiences on the sc899 issues..
When SC899 occurs if you look st the detailed SC info ,with the file string it will give you a clue where to go and what is causing it...you may need to google the filename etc, but for example it may say filename xxxxxxxpclxx so then you know it is a pcl error. ...
I have cured various isc899 ssues and the following have been a causes...
Machine on dhcp, set to static.
    Dns server set wrong.
Smtp admin email account wrong info.
    PCL errors.
Time server setting, only showing when scan to smb.
    Fax (firmware).
Scanning to smb server name rather than the ip.
    Unused protocols on.

Basically it needs a bit of investigation on the engineers part and trial and error afterwards to find the fault but essentially it can be anything that is software related.
It would be a lot more helpfull if Ricoh produced a subcode and reference to what the fault is, rather than letting us fond our way in the dark.

    Hope this all helps

Ricoh has actually put out 28 different firmware update since the last time they updated the firmware history. It would be nice to know what they corrected.

    Re: MPC3003 MPC5503 SC899

My opinion is that SC899 codes are the new data light blinking continuously. We used to be able to tell the customer it was a corrupt file. Now the copier flashes a code and the customer thinks there is a problem with their copier. Case in point: My customer has 2 MP6002 and MP6000 and when printing the file to MP 6002 the copier throws a SC899 code. When printing to the 6000 the copier data light continues to blink with no error code. I tried the same file on my CLP 27dn and the data light blinks until the file is remove from the printer queue. Most SC899 codes are from files that are emails, printing from the internet or applications like Indesign and Photoshop. Oh, the file prints fine on the HP. Very frustrating.

    Re: MPC3003 MPC5503 SC899

Thanks, went to rfg esource and found that firmware was released yesterday. Also I found that in the print driver if you change true type font to bit map will help if the customer is not to picky about the quality. When using iDesign we changed the document format to bitmap. When changing application format to bitmap the job takes longer to rip and the quality is acceptable. Now time to update firmware.
