Replacing the PCU with a new one will take care of the SC 390 if the PCU is the source of the problem. If the problem is the machine side connector and harness, it will come back. Check the connector and the harness all the way back to the board. Clean the connector. Was the "New" PCU that put in actually brand new or was it one that had been in another machine briefly? If it had been in another machine, did you turn the PCU counter reset flag back down? Was it a genuine Ricoh PCU?
Normal machine operation following replacement of the PCU with a new one is as follows:
- There is a switch that senses that the reset flag is down and initiates the "New PCU" function
- Toner density sensor is initialized to the new developer in the PCU.
- Rotation of the drum during TD initialization raises the reset flag.
- The PCU counter is reset.
If the reset flag is already up from having been in another machine, the TD sensor does not get initialized. If the machine had been overtoning, it will continue to do so.
The SC 355 could be the result of overtoning or it could be a dirty or bad ID sensor. Usually a dirty ID sensor will cause light copies.
