Ricoh MP C2550 Fax on Verizon voip (soft switched) won't receive faxes (busy)

We have a client who has had our Ricoh MP C2550 for some time now and just switched over to Verizon phone service. Now the fax won't recieve faxes. The line is constantly busy. But you can still hear the dial tone when you push the soft key button and you can dial out to a number and it rings but incoming is always busy so you cannot recieve faxes.

    Help? Ideas?

They need to contact Verizon. If you unplug the MPC 2550 from trhe phoe line I think that you will still get a busy signal. Also if you call your cell phone from the MPC 2550, it will show a different phone number from what the MPC2550 used ro be on.

While apparently they weren't using spell check, slimslob kind of has a point, it is probably some bad wiring in the fax line. Most likely Verizon's fault, but it could also be a fault in that building's wiring, which will cost the client if Verizon has to fix it. Make sure to tell the client that.
It might be instructive to plug a handset into the fax line and listen to what happens when a call is placed or received on that line.
I can't see Verizon having a non-standard VOIP setup, but just for grins you might try turning the machine's error correction off temporarily and see what happens. It is easy enough to do, and if it makes a difference you should see it almost instantaneously.
If the fax line runs through a surge suppressor or line conditioner, you might want to take that out of the circuit and see what happens, too.

If you switch phone line providers it is not likely you will retain the same phone number. If they have been given a new phone number i suspect that it is incorrect.

Test: Plug the new phone line into a telephone, call the # with your cell phone, Pick up the telephone. Dial tone? result: incorrect phone #.
