    MP2550...Better prints, poor copies.

First, this machine is clean as I can get it.
All mirrors, glass and lenses have been cleaned.

When making copies of my test pattern the density is poor in the larger dark areas.

When I scan the same test pattern to the Doc. Server the density is markedly better.

And when I scan to file and a user prints it from their computer on the copier it prints out as close to perfect copy as I have seen.

LOL what the heck am I missing?

    Thanks

    Jeff

    Hi Jeff

I had one similar experience, and I was thinking as you are "what the f...." only the copies looked faint but print seems to be ok.

It was the polygon mirror and other LSU optics that needed a bit of cleaning.

Do a PCU rebuild. This has happened to me a lot of timeson these machines. I know it sounds silly, but try it.

X2 on that. Replace with type 1027 PCU or rebuild. Had this issue myself just last week (again).
I can't explain (either) why exactly the copies are washed out and prints are clear, but it often happens as PCU nears end of cycle.

    Re: MP2550...Better prints, poor copies.

I would never had guessed that a machine that could make good prints but poor copies had PCU issues.

Hope the customer doesn't flip when I tell him the cost of the PCU..."Oh the price of doing business".

I won't be able to get back to the customer until next week (Headed to Biketoberfest in Daytona).

I'll report back with my results.

    Thanks everyone,

    Jeff

    here s the skinny..
our lazy customers tend to need to rest their "paws" on the copier as the
machine does its duty..their "paws" will weight down on the op side of the copier
and cause cq issues..basically knocking the focus of copier out of bounds
seen it many times, ricoh also uses very light metal on their frames so it
can only be prevented by explaining to the customer..
no special tools just lift up a little at a time n make copies till its right
