    MPC2500 fuser problems

    Hi All
    More problems today.
The MPC 2500 was doing a small print job when I became aware first of a rustling crumpling sound and a smell of overheating. It then stopped printing with the SC553 error code.

Reset the code and switched back on, again the same results.

Had a look at the fuser and the fusing belt has an area of crumpling/ dimpling about 70mm wide opposite the thermistor all the way round the belt and its these crumples that are causing the noise. I assume that the thermostats have failed causing the heating roller to overheat and causing damage to the belt.

My question is whether its worth trying replacement parts- thermostats/ lamps/ fusing belt or looking for a new fuser assembly or put it in a skip and buy a new photocopier. I paid £650 for it a year ago. If it wants £500 spending on it I may as well cut my losses.

Serial no L3683700586 counts are total colour 53714, B/W total 176536.

As always your advice will be gratefully received.

And dsdigitalprint I will be calling you next week if the consensus is for a repair.

    Many thanks

    Alan

You will only need to replace the fusing belt. I would also recommend replacing the pressure roller bearings, the heating roller bushings and bearings.

Thanks. Am I right in thinking a thermostat problem is the likely cause of the overheating? Should they be replaced too?

Thermostat no. Thermistor and thermopile yes. Either bad, dirty, or out of position.

The thermostats cut the power from the fusing unit when the temperature reaches 210 or 220 degrees Celcius to prevent damage to the machine. The thermistors control the temperature and tell the machine when to switch on/off the lamps.

Thanks for that. I could smell overheating and the belt was damaged so it probably points to defects in both the normal control system and the over temperature controls. Wouldn't be much fun to replace the fuser for the same to happen again! That's why I shall be asking a pro to fix it for me if I can.

With these fusers the last thing you want to do is skimp on parts, regardless of how much it costs. Get the tech to rebuild the ENTIRE fuser, including belt, hot and pressure rollers, bearings, bushings, oil supply/cleaning rollers and thermistors. That way, if you keep refreshing the oil supply roller approximately 150k, this fuser will run for at least 400-500k.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

Use PMB230160k Pm kit for the fuser
