Smile Ricoh 1232C No network printing

I am trying to join a Ricoh 1232C on to my home network as a network printer. I followed the process of adding a new printer; assigning a new TCP/IP port being the same address as the copier/printer. I installed the necessary software on my PC, but it will not print - giving me an error message. Now.............I can print when my PC is directly connected to the copier via the parallel port, so the drivers must be OK. I can "ping" the printer on my network, indicating no firewall problems. I have added the IP address to my trusted list, but still no luck. Are there any further settings on the 107clear I need to amend? Any help on this would be most appreciative.

sorry to ask, but did you put in the subnet mask. ex:
IP 192.168.1.10= Subnet 255.255.255.0

No network printing

Hi Ollie - Yep, put in sub net mask 255.255.255.0. I read some where that the IP address could also not contain an address with the same prefix as any other on the network i.e. 192.168.1.10 as the address for the printer, so 192.168.1.100 could not be used as another address on the network.

Hi iMind - just that : "there was an error printing to "Ricoh 1232 printer".

When I'm testing NIC functionality on a customer's Printer/MFP, I usually set the IP addy on my laptop's NIC to one away from the MFP and connect to it directly using a crossover cable.

For instance:-

Printer I.P:- 192.168.1.1 Subnet 255.255.255.0

Laptop:- 192.168.1.2 Subnet 255.255.255.0

Most DHCP severs work in a similar way, assigning addresses in the same prefix range to all devices on the network with only the final digit being altered.

On your home network have you manually assigned I.P addresses to every device on the network? Or does your broadband router/network switch have a DHCP server that automatically assigns I.P addresses to devices on the network? The printer does have an option to get it's I.P address from a DHCP server, but if you do that and tell the driver on your computer to print to a port you've created on a specific I.P address then it will only work until the "lease" has expired on that I.P address and the DHCP server assigns it another.

If your network is small and only comprises of a few easily configurable devices, then it may be better to disable the DHCP server and manually assign each device an I.P address.

To begin with though to eliminate only problems with the NIC in the Printer, I would get a piece of crossover cable and try and print to the device using the proceedure I detailed earlier.

"there was an error printing to" <-- this is usually when your system cannot print to printer that is on your list. but this is not your problem.
You said that you can ping the machines ip address, this means the ip on your machines NIC is ok so the ip problem is not the issue.
Now it seems the issue is the system interface between your NIC and machine system. I met this problem usually in Multi Functional Platform Copiers with a USB, LPT1, and Network.
Take note that the driver for LPT1 and USB are different than the driver use in direct network printing.
check this link for your drivers -->>Aficio 1224C/1232C download page

If still you cannot print via network see if this option is installed in your machine

RICOH AFICIO 1224C 1232C COPIER PRINTER & SCANNER KIT

RICOH AFICIO 1224C 1232C COPIER POSTSCRIPT 3 BOARD

If any one of this is not in your system you must provide to solve your problem

Maybe check if your router is registering IPs by Mac Address, suabE said that the drivers are different, its not the driver thats different but the port. You would be able to print even with out a post script board if that where to be the problem, you´d get pages with caracters all over, but whats the error message: "can not print this page" something like that, try taking out the RJ45 from the router and ping your printer IP

I am not trained on this so take that under consideration.
If the machine has a built-in webpage then type the ipaddress into a web browser (internet exploder, firefox...etc) and see if anything comes up.
If it does then it is a driver issue. This could be anything from the wrong driver (ps vs pcl) to a misconfigured driver (lpr port number or wrong print queue name such as "print" instead of "Print"). Usually (on the machines I am trained on) lpt1 does not require a special port on the machine, while lpr does require one.
If the webpage does not come up then it may not have the option to print(via network) installed.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!
