I have never had the HDD fail on this model (and I have worked on them since their inception). I have seen the gears on the first feed unit and the drive gears on the frame that drive the first feed unit wear out and eventually cause SC990. Call me crazy, but when I replaced the gears, 990 went away. Have had this more than a few times and was always the gears.

As for the 495 codes, check your toner supply tubes. There are a total of 3 tubes, 1 going from the clear cylinder on the right side of the machine to the toner air pump, the second going from the pump to the toner unit, and the third going from the toner unit back to the clear cylinder. If any of these hoses are blocked, there is a lack of suction in toner system and not enough toner gets to the toner hopper. SC495 can also be caused by the diagonal coil in back not turning which can be the coil itself or a cam stopper.

Hi @all,
I want to refresh this thread cause I've got the same problems like the threadopener. Btw. please don't take care of my english...I'm from germany
Sometimes, when I want to start the machine, it works, sometimes not. The machine gets into a "loop of restarting". I've got several SCs ( 990,601,361 ). I've already ordered two new 10 gig Quantum Fireballs, waiting for them to be delivered. Are there any other things I could check in the meantime ?
Btw.: Is it possible to create an image using i.e. Acronis True Image and copy it to the new HDD or do I have to install all the data via a flash card ?
Thanks a lot for answering my (maybe stupid) questions and
best wishes from Germany
