It is behind the inner right cover that is located to the right of the transfer belt unit. There is a cover stick over it. SP 5915 if set to 0 will disable the mechanical counter. If it is disconnected, say by a customer, without being disabled, SC 901 will occur and copying/printing will be prohibited.

Just thought that even if he has to replace the nvram at least he can still have a valid counter available.
