    MP2550 - MP2852 crinkling paper

I see this everywhere with this series of machines - right from the MP2550 to the newer MP2851....they all seem to intermittantly crinkle the paper. Like the paper creases before the fuser, then the fuser flattens it. Kinda looks like a snail trail, ive also heard it called the Bacon Effect! Kinda looks like cooked bacon...Its gotta be pretty common cause I see it on ALL of these machines.

Ive never found a hard and fast fix for it tho. And its always very intermittant so very hard to fault find.

First thing I do is replace the fuser - ive seen broken pressure roller supports in the fuser cause this, also worn or soft pressure rollers.

Ive seen paper tray guides, either front or back out by one notch on the gear cause it - the paper isnt centered in the tray correctly.

Ive also taken off the entire PTR assy and refitted it, for some random reason thats cured it too.

Im going back to a machine where I have tried all this. Only other thing can think of is adjusting paper buckle perhaps....

Any other fixes or suggestions for this? Anyone found a definate fix?

    Cheers guys.

I always check the fuser entrance guide for baked on toner before trying anything else, I normally find that scraping off any lumps of toner cures this problem

Also check the side guides in the paper tray, they should be equidistant from the centre, if the paper is biased to either the front or rear then it can catch and skew as it travels through the paper path

...if there is a mylar RIGHT BEFORE the registration roller, make sure that the mylar is not unevenly worn, otherwise the paper will hit the registration roller unevenly and a lengthwise ripple (snail trail) could form. I have seen this with some of the color MFP's!

My experience has been that the transfer roller is not snapped in all the way on one side or the other.

Um, could it possibly be bad paper? At least I've seen that be the case a few times.

These engines are a bit sensitive when it comes to bad paper/moisture issues. So if mechanical things/paper path obstacles has been ruled out it's kinda the last option. In some cases/enviroments it also make sense to add a tray heater.
