Hi Newbie here,

Yes... there are dozens and dozens of threads about that
Windows 8 SMB 3 is not reverse compatible with SMB 2. Has to do with a NetBios security setting that is not supported by firmware on older MFPs. There is supposedly a way to force SMB 1 using regedit if you want to Google it. Of course a Microsoft security patch could force you to have to do the regedit again and again.
A firmware update has been developed by Ricoh for the Network Support. For the MP C3000 it is not a standard firmware update. It is a Custom firmware. Firmware version is LRC0451. If you are not an authorized Ricoh service provider or for some other reason cannot obtain it from Ricoh, we do not provide firmware. You can request a price quote by emailing Paul@JustManuals.com.
could also be a password issue? had the same issue on windows 8 pc. the cure we did was to put a password on the pc (didn't have one before) and then put that into the scan settings of the copier. might be totally different to what your experiencing but just a thought
Scan to FTP or email will always work, and is easy to setup; and is just as insecure as SMB*.
No, this is a firmware issue. You can get the same error on Win 7 with no password set. This machine is too old to support Win 8, the supposed custom firmware should fix this, but it is only available through US channels.
* SMB is the most common entry point for malicious activity.
Why is it not available in the UK?
Would save lots of issues where the customer upgrades IT kit but not the copier.
Networking skills are advantageous but use of a 3m vacuum cleaner is essential
That is a question you need to ask Ricoh-UK. If you have a major account that Ricoh might not want to lose, it wouldn't hurt to have them contact Ricoh.
For all I know, it might be available but they haven't let techs know how to obtain Custom/Special firmware. In the US it is available on both TSRC (Technical Solutions Resource Center www.tsrc.ricoh-usa.com) and rfg-esource.ricoh-usa.com. You could also ask Ricoh if it is possible for you to be given access to these sites.
Rfg-esource is the repository that downloads on TSRC links point to. It also includes a site search function for use by techs to locate and download documents and firmware/media. Under firmware/media you can select apps, java, patches, remote, ROM, SC/PCMCIA, or custom/special. Once the results are on the screen, you can select to download individual items or all items. All items is handy for things like firmware and bulletins. For things like firmware that are .zip files, you can have the download ap extract them for you.
