MP C2503 - One page prints, then papersize mismatch is shown.

Ok, the drivers are setup correctly and all the feed guides etc. are in the correct position.
There is no reason that a paper-size mismatch should occur.

What seems to happen is that when printing from office 2003/2007 the first page is printed and immediately after that, the error message pops up saying paper size mismatch.
The customer is using PCL 5c and I have suggested they try loading PCL 6 for testing purposes. (they have not done so yet)

For now as a work around (as suggested by ricoh) we have set autotrayselect to off and changed Printer SP1001-005 bit switch 1 thus disabling notifications for papersize mismatch.
With this workaround the copier has not replicated the fault at all.

Has anyone encountered this peculiar fault before?
Any suggestions on a permanent fix?

The issue is to do with a setting on the 03 range. under printer features > basic settings > rotate sort - auto paper continue.

As far as i know the machine wants to rotate every second page, which is why you get a paper mismatch if you don't have any SEF A4.

Set this to off and see if this resolves it for you?

I think our trainers set this to off if no finisher, and on if theres a finisher.

user tools-printer features-system-paper tray priority- set to driver command, should prevent any mis matches in future for size or paper type.

Your issue is more likely to be in the application itself and not the machine. If you go to page setup of the document (word/excel/...) you will find under the paper tab two settings for paper source, 1st page and others. 1st page is probably set for auto tray select but others (2nd,3rd...) are probably set for something else- like Tray 3 or bypass. It should be set for auto tray select also.

Yip, Satan's print engine lives in MS Office software.

Could also be a different paper setting for second and subsequent pages. shutch7 recommendation will correct this problem. The one time you need to set page 1 to be different from subsequent pages is for letterhead. Tray with letterhead should be locked in user tools. document settings should be set to that tray for page 1 and to auto select for the rest of the document.

Re: MP C2503 - One page prints, then papersize mismatch is shown.

To clarify, we have tested the machine with printing just the one page and even though that prints and no subsequent prints are assigned to print, the copier still says paper size mismatch.

So I don't think it's an office issue, although I know it has been the root cause of many other problems i've had before. on this occasion I think I've got to let microsoft off.

Going in this afternoon to troubleshoot further.

    Will keep you posted.

    EDIT:
Ok, I have changed paper tray priority to driver command and this has solved the issue. Paper mismatch only occurs on genuine mismatches now.
Customer is happy, so I'm happy.

Once again, thanks for the quick and detailed support C.T.N.!!!!

The 03s auto rotate sort by default now, I've had it happen a few times on many different environments. I get around it by setting the machine to immediately ignore paper mismatching, I tried changing auto rotate in printer settings but it made no difference.
