ADF issue - MP C3003 - We're stumped for the moment.

    Hello all,

I have an engineer on site at this very moment with a real brain tickler and I wondered if any of you have come across this issue.

We have had the MP C3003 installed on site for at least 6 months now and this is it's 1st issue.
It has a very intermittent Jam at number 17 (paper did not reach output sensor) and our engineer is unable to find anything foreign stopping the transport and as it's so intermittent I wonder if something is moving about or out of alignment causing the paper to slow and mess up the timing.

Has anyone had any similar ADF issues on the '03' range? Any input will be a help.

    Thank You

My guess would be a dirty original exit sensor, especially if in a high dust environment.

Check the holder for the optional stamp unit (for the fax unit). It is located under the document table. You can pull the holder out to place the stamp. If it's not positioned correctly you get original jams. Don't ask me why, but I saw it during training.

Is it an ARDF or a single pass? There's an RTB out for a jamming issue on the single pass feeders.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

image.jpgHave a look at this. There is also a recent bulletin showing a mod and new part number, for another problem area in this feeder.

    Our tech says...

The doc feeder is not Single pass. It has had all the sensors and tyres cleaned.

The Fax stamp cover is 'clicked' into place and shouldn't cause the issue.

We have tried and checked everything Ricoh knowledgbase suggests (which isn't much)

    Any other ideas?

Under the document feeder you have a white sheet with velcro stuck to it, remove it and you will find a sensor on a slider (kind of like in the paper trays) which obviously slides forward and back

make sure this sensor on the slider is actually set in the rails themselves, otherwise you will find the sensor on a slight angle and it will come out of position by just opening and closing the document feeder causing this issue

If the customer isn't using the stamp function then you should tape the stamp unit closed. There is a known fault with these units, causes Jam 001 error codes mostly. Just moving the unit back to its home position is not good enough.

Is this happening only with a certain paper size, or certain originals?

It has happened only on A4, and it is so intermittent we are starting to think it's the user's originals being dog eared etc.

I think for now we're just going to monitor the situation as they haven't had a jam (touch wood) since I logged this thread.

Thanks for all the help guys, I don't know where I'd be without this forum.
