I seem to be getting a lot of sc990's lately!

This one is on a 1022 simultaniously with sc541.

I have reset it through sp mode, checked the fuser out. Both heater lamp and both thermistors meter ok?

    Error 541
I would suspect the thermister for the 541 error.

Update firmware for 990 as recomended previously

    Error 990
    Software performance error
The software attempted to perform an
    unexpected operation.

    • Software defective
    • Internal parameter incorrect
    • Insufficient working memory
    • When this SC occurs, the file name,
address, and data will be stored in
    NVRAM. This information can be
checked by using SP7-403. Note the
above data and the situation in which
this SC occurs. Then report the data
    and conditions to your technical
    control center.

You might want to check the warm up temp for the thermistors. If one reads hotter than the other you may need thermistors or a hot roller depending on the age and condition. They are 120k P.M. items so they should be replaced at that interval. I've had a few on various machines in various segments have the thermistors just go bad.

Also make sure the plastic ears that retain the hot roller bearings aren't broken on the lower casing. IF the roller shifts around it can chew up the drive gear and short the hot roller to the lamp contacts.

You will almost always get an SC 990 with this model when it throws a 54x code. It's just the software side of the hardware failure.
Either replace the thermistors, or check the bearing grooves and if broken replace the fuser frame.

    Thumbs up Fixed it!

Thank you all for your advise!

I changed the thermistors and hot roller and bingo!!

Just seems strange that they meter a resistance accross them which alters with temp change.

    Nevermind, its fixed anyway.

    Thanks again.
