To my knowledge, you have to use a SD card to do firmware updates on most current Ricoh MFDs. Depending on the age of the model, you may be limited to either 1GB, 2GB or 4GB. These can be found on the internet if you can not find anything smaller than 8GB locally. If you do have a machine that uses USB sticks, you can also find them on the internet.

As an alternative, you can download the .rfu version of the update and install it using WIM. No, you can not change the extension of normal firmware update files.

Ricoh equipment firmware updates are not done with USB sticks.

If you are having problems copying firmware to an SD card.
I wrote dos-batch file that does all the firmware copy an extraction process for you.

If you do a search for "Zip-File Extraction" in the advance search bar you should find
the U-zip file to download. The use of the file assumes you know how to use a computer and sd card slot.

The thread text shown is a copy of the batch file incase you are concerned about an PC virus. Simply copy and paste the entire thread text to a file and name it <anyname>.bat

You can get all size SD cards on eBay, for example I bought 15 brand new cards for £10
