Clean the I.D sensors and take off the transfer unit metal bracket with the three holes as the inside of that will probably be covered in toner as well.
Also clean the positioning sensors for the paper transfer roller cam, that can play havoc with the MUSIC adjustment pattern on the transfer belt.

    From TSB 045:

Please follow the troubleshooting steps below to resolve an SC400 (ID Sensor Adjustment Error).
    1. Check the harness of the ID sensor.
    2. Clean the ID sensor with a cloth moistened with water.
NOTE: Never use alcohol, because this may damage the board.
    3. Execute SP3011-001 (manual process control).
    4. If the value of SP3324-003 (Vsg error counter) is NOT “0”, repeat Steps 2 and 3.
    5. If the value of SP3324-003 is still NOT “0” after repeating Steps 2 and 3, check the spring for the PTR unit
    contact lever. Repeat steps 3 & 4.
    6. If the value of SP3324-003 is still NOT “0” replace the ID sensor. Repeat steps 3 & 4.
    Notes:
    1. If the black spacers are stuck to the sensor board, remove all black spacers. These black
spacers should be used when a new ID sensor board is installed.
    2. Input all correction coefficients for the ID sensor with the SP modes referring to the barcode
sheet provided with the new ID sensor unit/board.
    For example, input "0.98" with SP3362-013 & 016.
    3. Always refer to the Service Manual for the complete part replacement procedure.
    7. If the value of SP3324-003 is still NOT “0” replace the BCU. Repeat steps 3 & 4.
    8. If the value of SP3324-003 is still NOT “0” replace the ITB unit.

slimslob you are from my favourite members.where did you find that?service manual says these :
    ID sensor adjustment error
When the Vsg error counter reaches "3", the machine detects "SC400".
The Vsg error counter counts "1" when the Vsg detected by ID sensor is more than
the value (default: 4.5V) specified with SP3324-005 or less than the value (default:
    3.5V) specified with SP3324-006.
    • Dirty or defective ID sensor
    • ID sensor detection surface dirty
    1. Check the harness of the ID sensor.
    2. Clean or replace the ID sensor.
    • After replacing the ID sensor, input the ID sensor correction coefficient
with SP3362-013 and -016. For details, refer to "ID sensor board" in the
    Replacement and Adjustment section.
    3. Check the spring at the PTR unit contact lever. (See “PTR Unit Contact Motor”
in the chapter “Replacement and Adjustment”.)
    4. Replace the BCU.
    4. Appendix: Service Call Conditions
    56
4No. Type Details (Symptom, Possible Cause, Troubleshooting Procedures)
    5. Replace the ITB unit.

It is a bit different from yours .

You can clean these sensors without taking the ITB unit out, but it is easier to do it. You can also clean underneath the ITB unit but if you don't remove the plate (see above) the dust will vibrate back down onto the sensors.

If you clean it, reboot the machine and it returns, replace the whole ID board (save the black spacers from the previous board!).
