    MPC 2051

    Hi all
This machine emits a loud droning noise only when printing but I think I can hear it faintly when copying as well, I tried running it in output mode and think I can hear it faintly when running colour drum units but I don't understand why it would only be noisy when printing, also it is very intermittent and might not be noisy for days at a time, trouble is customer uses mainly for printing, any help greatly appreciated thanks.

Fusing sleeve needs either it's bushings greasing or the sleeve unit itself replacing.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

Color printing is when the motors run at their slowest speed. The slower stepper motors run at, the more noticeable their noise becomes. You should be able to isolate the motor causing the noise by running them at the slowest speed in the output checks. I wouldn't if replace a stepper motor unless it actually stalls. I have had brand new motors be louder than the old motor.

This is a common problem on this model.

There is a lube bar inside the fusing sleeve that runs dry. If you are lucky it is just dry, if not the inside of the fusing sleeve has gotten hold of the material part of the bar and has started to pull it along toward the bottom of the fusing unit.

We remove the sleeve assy from the fusing unit, then carefully remove the sleeve and (if the bar is still ok) spray it and the sleeve inside with lithium grease. Reassemble and clean the orange ends of the black roller with alcohol based cleaner to improve grip with the fusing sleeve.

After this all should be well.

If the noise is only when printing on thick paper, lower the thick paper fusing temperature 15 to 20 degrees. rfg050866.pdf
