    User prompted to re-install driver

    Good Afternoon Folks,

I had a customer's IT guy ask me why his users are encountering a message to install the printer driver.

I had no answer for him as I've never heard of this before.

His environment; Printer drivers, 32 & 64 bit PCL5, installed on Windows Server 2012 with the SP C430s shared from there.

    Has anybody encountered this before?

    Thanks,

    Tim

If the drivers are on his server, the ball's in his court. Any savvy IT tech could have this issue resolved in a few minutes.

I have run into A MAC that a customer updated the driver after getting this message and it was a virus.
She tried to blame me and I told her that I didn't click the yes button.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

I was thinking virus but wanted to find if anyone else had seen this.

    Thanks,

It sounds like the users don't have administrative rights and the network has Point and Print restrictions set to on. Have him either change group policy to allow users to install network printers or from the workstations have him try this if it's not explicitly set by policy:

Allowing Standard Users to Install Network Printers on Windows 7 without Prompting for Administrative Credentials - GES on Windows 7 - Site Home - MSDN Blogs

What's his reasoning for choosing PCL5?

It's a law firm, using PCLaw, and they've had issues in the past with that application and printing using PCL6.
