    No Duplexing on MP 4500

Got a copier, Aficio MP 4500, that I thought would duplex, but there is no duplex option on the screen. The drivers that I have installed all provide for this option and literature from Ricoh calls duplexing "Standard".
Also this machine had its hard drive pulled for security reason. I am getting an error code 870-01 and address book error.

Did I hook something up wrong? Do I need an SD card? If so, where can I get one? What can I do?
    Thanks

You will need to fit HDD to the copier for the duplex option.
Is the duplex physically attached to the copier?

Thank you for the answer. Been looking for the duplex part, where is it? I am familiar with Konica Minolta copiers and they are located on the right side door.

The guy I got it from said if I wanted to put one in I could use any I/E styled hard drive. Is that true? Also can you point me in the right direction as far as formatting the Hard Drive?
    Thanks

Original HDD size was 40GB. I would use something in the 40GB to 80GB size.

Duplex unit is on the right side of the machine. You have to open it before you can open the right door. It hinges on top of the bypass tray unit and can be physical removed form the copier. Prior models it was an option. Later models it was incorporated into the right door.

This is probably stupid, but have you checked "User Tools" to make sure that the machine is set up to duplex?
You won't be able to duplex if the paper type is set to a heavier setting there. Or if duplex is turned off there.
This might not work, but it shouldn't take that long to check.

IDE hard drive (as opposed to sata hdd) needed for duplex. I assume it stores the scanned images to print the pages in the right order which is the second side first so that they can be stacked in the right order (first side face down on tray.) Generic IDE hdd can be used and formatted by the mfd itself. Have used up to 500gb generic hdd but less is fine.
